All my Egyptian artifacts were legally exported from Egypt prior to the 1970 UNESCO treaty, and my policies comply with all international trade laws regarding antiquities. Every item is legally and ethically acquired, coming from old American and European collections, museum deaccessions and auctions. Provenance is not always listed in every item description due to restricted space, but is provided on the certificate of authenticity that accompanies each item. Enjoy!



Roman Egypt, c. 5th - 7th Century AD. Fantastic and huge Coptic bone doll. The upper portion of the doll, the original hole in one shoulder showing where the articulated arm would have been attached. Deeply-incised details, with nice desert varnish. H: 3 1/2” (8.8 cm). Ex collection of a Manhattan, New York professor, acquired in the 1970's. Roman Egypt, c. 5th - 7th Century AD. Great Coptic bone doll. Most of the doll is here, one leg still intact, the other lost. Rarely found this complete. Coptic Egypt, c. 5th - 7th Century AD. Small carved bone head from a doll. Beautifully rendered with side eyes, pronounced nose and nice smile, wearing a broad collar. Coptic Egypt, c. 5th – 6th Century AD. Neat small ceramic applique from a Coptic vessel depicting a facing head, most likely Christ. He is depicted with a nimbus, the features rather stylized. 1 7/8 in x 1 in (4.8 x 2.5 cm). Possibly the handle from an ancient oil lamp. Ex Southern California private collection.

Holy Land Ostracon in Coptic!
An excellent large ancient pottery ostraca fragment with Coptic script, circa 6th-7th centuries AD. Handwritten Coptic text in light ink in 12 partial lines. A few minor chips at edge, otherwise about as made, the back (inside) showing multiple lines of finger-lines from the original ancient maker of the pot later used for the textual purposes. Measures 14.3 x 9.1 cm (5 3/4” x 3 5/8”). #AH2563: $1200


A framed Egyptian papyrus fragment, Coptic, c. 5th - 10th Century AD, the small square fragment with to two partial lines of Coptic script in black. Gorgeous, colorful and intricate Coptic textile panel, Ex Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Egypt, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD, linen and wool, probably from a tunic. Central strip in colors of red, blue, green, white and orange, the outer edge decorated with rows of waves, in red with shite outline. All on a beige background. Textile measures 10 1/4 x 4 1/4", frame 11 1/4 x 5 3/4". Ex Santa Barbara Museum of Art deaccession, with original museum label with donor on back of frame. A long and intricate Coptic textile panel, Ex Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Egypt, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD, linen and wool, probably from a tunic. The strip of deep brown decoration consist of a vase with flowers and floral devices within a stylized border. The piece is custom mounted on a linen backing and within an antique frame. Textile: 13 1/4" x 2" (33 x 5.1 cm); Frame: 14 1/2" x 4 1/2" (36.2 x 11.4 cm). Ex Santa Barbara Museum of Art deaccession, with original museum label with donor on back of frame. Coptic Egypt, c. 480 - 650 AD. Terracotta souvenir pilgrim flask. Depicts Saint Menas on one side, flanked by camels, his arms outstretched in blessing. Above each arm is a quincunx, representing a cross; all within a beaded circular border. Measures 3 7/8" (10.1 cm) tall. Missing most of one handle, otherwise intact! ref: Bailey, Ptolemaic and Roman Terracottas from Egypt, p. 118, no 3415. Small flasks were probably produced at the pilgrimage center of Abu Mena, south-west of Alexandria, to sell to the devout as a souvenir of a visit. They have been deduced to have contained holy water or oil from the shrine. Ex old English collection. #1210184: SOLD


Roman Egypt, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD. Attractive Coptic bone jar. A nice example with lathe-cut concentric grooves and raised central ridge, the sides tapering inward at center with widening mouth. The bottom has been perfectly fitted into the base and also decorated with incised concentric circles as is the interior of the vessel itself. H: 3 3/8" (5.6 cm). Intact with minor chip on rim, may have originally had a lid. Ex Old English Private Collection. Large and gorgeous! #AE2126: $375 SOLD

Coptic Egypt. Roman period, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD. Neat Coptic black steatite human-headed amulet. With circular drilled eyes and layered headdress, horizontally drilled for suspension below knob atop head. Measures 31 x 20 mm. Nicely detailed with light deposits. Deep green, almost black color.
