Masada! Actually Recovered from Masada.
Ancient Roman pilum (javelin tips) recovered from the mountaintop fortress of Masada, where the Jewish rebels held their last stand against the Roman legions in 73-74 C.E. Ex Shmarya Guttman; from the personal collection of notable collector Don Geary of Mt. Orab, Ohio. Mr. Geary was a premier collector, and bought these from an excavation of Masada in the 1960's. After visiting the site several times in the 1930s and 1940s, Shmarya Guttman conducted an initial probe excavation of the site in 1959. Masada was extensively excavated between 1963 and 1965 by an expedition led by Israeli archaeologist and former military Chief-of-Staff Yigael Yadin.
These pilums would have most likely come from the last battle held at Masada. In 73-74 C.E. the last Israelis who never accepted Herod’s rule nor the Romans, went to the top of Masada as it was supposedly impossible to breach. Built by Herod the Great as part of his escape route back to his land of Edom, there was only one road up the tall structure. The Israelis defended their position multiple times as the Romans tried to advance up the road. The Romans, who wanted to kill all the Israelis in the area built a land ramp up the other side of Masada and advanced over the top of Masada. According to Josephus (who was a Pharisee (a learned Jew) and historian) what they found is that the Israelis committed suicide rather than become Roman slaves.
