Ancient Rome, c. 2nd-Early 3rd Century AD. A rare and very beautiful Roman bronze enamelled "turtle" fibula, with a skull! An elaborate fibula depicting a skull with sunken eyes and crested headdress, the rectangular center beautifully decorated with six circular cells with some of the original white enamel inlay still present. H: 35 mm (1 3/8"). Beautiful, rare and in very fine condition except for the missing pin. A museum-quality example with exquisite detail and beautiful glossy dark patina with spots of brown! Rare!!
