Phoenician, c. 5th - 3rd century BC. Nice ceramic figure of Astarte. Depicted wearing long gown, right hand at her breast, left clutching an uncertain object by her side. An attractive piece with pleasant detail and heavy with mineral deposits. H: 5" (12.8 cm). Intact, few areas of with chipping and light weathering from the ages, old collection numbers in black ink on back. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests.
