Luristan, ancient Persia, c. 1200 - 600 BC. Great bronze axe head. The main blade vertically oriented with rounded cutting edge, the opposing blade shorter and horizontally orientated with rounded cutting edge. Both blade stem from a short cylindrical mounting shaft. 3 5/8 x 1 1/2 in (90 x 37mm). Green patina with heavy earthen deposits. Ancient Persia. Luristan, c. 1200-800 BC. Nice bronze spear-point from the Axel Guttmann collection. Long leaf-shaped form, with shallow mid-rib and complete tang. Nicely preserved and intact, slight curvature to body, likely from battle damage. 4 1/2” (11.6 cm) with dark copper patina and heavy earthen deposits. The largest arrowhead type from the collection, Axel Guttmann was the most famous collector of ancient militaria in the modern era, actually creating his own museum in Berlin to display his enormous collection. #WP2218: $225

Luristan, ancient Persia, c. 1000 - 600 BC. A long bronze bronze butt spike. The long tapered point with square profile and the mounting shaft slightly flared at end with two rivet holes. Luristan, Persia, c. 1200 - 800 BC. Great bronze spearhead. Long, leaf-shaped blade with wide raised mid-rib and 'rat-tail' tang where it would have been affixed to the spear shaft. Flared collar around the top of tang, hollow on the insuide, where it would have sat upon the top of the wood shaft. Intact with wonderful purplish to green patina and heavy earthen deposits. Luristan, Ancient Persia, circa 1200-700 BC. A large and impressive bronze sword. With a double-sided blade with a thick midrib, tapering to a sharp point. The hilt would have been wrapped with leather to provide a comfortable grip for the user. The sword would have been cast in a rough mold and then the edges would have been forged, giving them a sharpened edge and simultaneously hardening the surfaces. Length:460 mm; width: 50mm. Luristan, Persia, c. 1200 - 800 BC. Excellent bronze arrowhead. With triangular blade, raised mid-rib and long tang, the tip still very sharp! Olive-green patina, light deposits. L: 65mm (2 1/2"). Luristan, Persia, c. late 2nd millenium BC. Great bronze dirk which has been broken in antiquity, with hilt and blade originally cast in one piece. The hilt and penannular rib is flanged to take inlays, which is a more unusual feature on these types of weapons. The blade is heavy and well preserved with a narrow and very prominent midrib. The patination along the edges of the break suggest it was broken in antiquity, most likely for ritual purposes. Length: 16 1/2 in (42.3 cm) including separation. In nice condition and a most unusual with such a clean break at the strongest portion of the weapon (fits together near perfectly). With custom metal display stand. Ex-East Coast USA collection. Blade and handle cast as one piece, open areas and flanges in handle that once held bone or stone inlays; fan-shaped pommel. The base of the blade is decorated with an incised band of cross-hatching with triangles above, the edges of the blade sharpened in antiquity with nicks to edge from use. 15 1/8" (38.3 cm) long!
