Mark Antony. Excellent Silver Legionary Denarius, Legion II. Struck at the Battle of Actium 32-31 BC. Praetorian galley rt., ANT AVG III VIR R P C / Aquila & two legionary standards, LEG II. ref: Cr544/14, Syd 1216. Total diameter 18.5 mm, 3.85 g. Set into custom .925 silver bezel. Total diameter 18.5 mm, 3.86 grams. Excellent detail, nicely-centered. Struck by Antony, some say with Cleopatra's silver, to fund his fleet against Octavian at the decisive Battle of Actium, where he was defeated. Octavian later became Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome. I always found this issue to be special because the little heads in the galley on the coin represented the actual historical men who literally held this coin. #CR2859: $299 SOLD
